Constantine "Gus" Paron
Beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away on Patriots Day, September 11, 2013, surrounded by family, after a brief illness. Gus was born May 16, 1931 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Maria and Nicholas Paron. A wonderful husband, father, grandfather and uncle, he gave a lifetime of service to his community and church. He served in the U.S. Navy, aboard the USS Massey, during the Korean War. He retired from General Motors-Central Foundry in 1986 after a 30 year career. He loved sailing and enjoyed summers with his family on the waters of Michigan. Crossing over the Atlantic three times, he also sailed to Nova Scotia and back with the love of his life and first mate, Marge, his wife of 58 years. Member of AHEPA and the St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, he was a fixture at the Greek Festival every summer logging many tireless hours. Besides his wife, Marge, he is survived by three children, Dr. Nicholas Paron, and his wife Julie, of Saginaw, Connie Paron-Kelso, and her husband Ron, of Saginaw and Thomas Paron, and his wife Ann, of Woodbury, Connecticut, seven grandchildren, one great granddaughter, countless neices and nephews and two sisters Thalia Schunk and Stella Carmichael. He was predeceased by his parents, sister Cleo Powder and brother Paul Paron. Gus was the man with a big wide smile, always tinkering, always busy. Sailing the seas, turning the spit, speaking Greek, telling stories, always very interested in others and in his beloved family. Funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 16, 2013, at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church 4970 Mackinaw Road. Father Irenaeus Cox will officiate with burial to follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family at W.L. Case & Company 4480 Mackinaw Road on Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. where the family will gatherat 7:00 p.m. for a Trisagon service. Friends may also visit on Monday at church from 9:30 a.m.until the time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church.
