Daniel Castaeda Sr. "Big Danny" Saginaw, MI Our beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away Tuesday, September 24, 2013, at the age of 79. Daniel was born March 1, 1934, in Eagle Pass, TX to the late Ignacio and Dilia (Orozco) Castaneda. He served in the U.S. Army from 1956-1958. He retired from GM Malleable Iron in 1982. He was an avid Detroit Tiger, Detroit Lions and Michigan Wolverines fan. He enjoyed traveling, camping, bowling, dancing, and singing. He was an influential baseball coach and was an inductee to the Saginaw Baseball Hall of fame. He will be dearly missed by his wife Rachel (Banda) Castaneda; his children, Dilia Aguilar, Mary "Lupe" (Dean) Spangler, Mary Christine Castaneda, Olivia (Ruben) Aguilar, Elvira (Carlos) Castro, Daniel (Reta) Castaneda Jr., Gary (Mary Lou) Castaneda, Adam (Carmen) Gonzalez, Daniel (Yolanda) Gonzalez, Anthony (Naomi) Gonzalez, and David (Sylvia) Gonzalez; 49 grandchildren, 78 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Catarina Salinas, Chelo (Gale Paul) Kidd, Minerva (Arturo) Rosales, Guadalupe Castaneda, and Johnny (September) Castaneda; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister Guadalupe Castaneda. According to Daniel's wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial service will take place at 12:00 noon Saturday, September 28, 2013, at W.L. Case & Company 4480 Mackinaw Rd. Fr. Joseph Schabel and Pastor Gabe Martinez will co-officiate with military honors under the auspices of the American G.I. Forum.
