Darrell Dean Shaner Jr. of Saginaw, Michigan
Beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Thursday, September 3, 2020, at Ascension St. Mary’s Hospital. He was 63 years old. Darrell Dean Shaner Jr. was born on December 18, 1956, in Saginaw, Michigan, to the late Darrell Dean and Arlene Carla (Reinke) Shaner Sr. He was a proud 1975 graduate of Arthur Hill High School. Dean married Debra Smith on October 7, 1978, in Saginaw; she survives him. He was employed with the City of Saginaw for 15 years working at Hoyt Park, Anderson Water Park, and the Children’s Zoo at Celebration Square. Dean was also employed as a plant manager with SBS for 15 years and ended his career as a driver with Yellow Cab. His love of baseball began when he was 16 years old and spanned 41 years until 2013 when he officially retired to watch his grandchildren play. He also enjoyed watching and attending various car racing events over the years. Dean will forever be remembered for his excellent sense of humor, his fun and loving nature, and for always being present in the lives of his children and grandchildren.
Surviving besides the mother of his children, Debra Shaner; two daughters and a son: Marci (Mike) Harrold, Matthew (Ashley) Shaner, and Nicolle Shaner; grandchildren: Madisson, Matt Jr., Jayden, Dakota, Zane, and Papa’s princess, Layla; two sisters and a brother: Cheryl Heron; Donald (Ashley) Shaner, and Carol McQueen. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, and all the Golds Family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Anthony Ka’von Doster; neice, Andrea Lynn Harpel.
A funeral service will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 9, 2020, at Hoyt Park, 1574 S. Washington Ave. Rev. William Hessler will officiate. Honoring Dean’s wishes cremation will follow the service. Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the W. L. Case & Company, 4480 Mackinaw Road on Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and at the park on Wednesday from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Pursuant to the current state executive order, indoor building capacity is limited, face covers are required, and social distancing encouraged.
