David A. “Dave” Hurd of Bridgeport, Michigan
Beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Friday, September 11, 2020, at Bavarian Comfort Care. He was 80 years old. David Allen Hurd was born on June 4, 1940, in Marlette, Michigan, to the late Harold and Pauline (Schell) Hurd Sr. He was a proud 1958 graduate of Marlette High School. Following graduation, Dave honorably served his country by enlisting in the United States Marine Corps serving from 1958 to 1962. Upon his return, he married Judith Berden on May 4, 1963; she preceded him in death on February 25, 2007. Dave worked for Saginaw Steering Gear in quality control at plant 4 and retired after 33 ½ years of service. As a young man Dave was actively involved in the Jaycee’s and the Lions Club. He also enjoyed coaching sports for all three of his sons. Later in life, Dave enjoyed taking trips to the casino and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He will forever be remembered for his patriotism to his country and Marine Corps, priceless advice on life, and for being a wonderful father and grandfather. He was also known by the name “Stuntman Dave” by all the kids.
Surviving are three sons: Kevin (Mindy) Hurd of Carrollton; Jeff Hurd and his fiancée, Gina Deveraux of Saginaw; Jason (Carla) Hurd of Bridgeport; 11 grandchildren: Colin Hurd, Tyler Hurd and his fiancee, Kayla Aultman, Alli Hurd, Kaycee Morgeli, Lexi Morgeli, Lindsay Hurd, Colby Morgeli, Cayla Gilbert, Caitlyn Gilbert, Colton Cancelli, Caris Cancelli; eight great-granchildren; sister, Paula Phillips of Frankenmuth; sister-in-law, Ellen Hurd of Marlette. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by two brothers: Harold (Pat) Hurd Jr. and Robert Hurd; niece, Julie Hurd; nephew, Michael Hurd.
A memorial service will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 26, 2020, at the W. L. Case & Company, 5700 Dixie Highway. Rev. Ron Sinclair will officiate. Military honors will be held under the auspices of the United States Marine Corps. Honoring Dave’s wishes cremation has taken place. Friends may visit with the family at the funeral chapel on Saturday from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Pursuant to the current state executive order, indoor building capacity is limited, face coverins are required, and social distancing encouraged. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the American Cancer Association.
