Baumann, David Kime Freeland, Michigan Passed away Wednesday, November 23, 2016, at the age of 82 years. Born and raised in Kane, PA, David was graduated from Kane High School in 1952. Upon graduation, he attended Penn State University, earning a Bachelor of Science Degree. Upon graduation, he joined the US Air Force as a Second Lieutenant, Weather Reconnaissance, serving in three years in Morocco. The Air Force sent him back to Penn State where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Meteorology. He joined the Michigan Air National Guard Reserve, finishing his 27 years military career as Lieutenant Colonel, and serving as Commander of the 107th Weather Flight at Mt. Clemens, Michigan. Some of his accomplishments were the Distinguished Service, Achievement and Outstanding Weather Flight, Air National Guard. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, JoAnn (Schmeck) Baumann; son, Matthew David; daughter, Susan Mary Becker (Walter Michael), and their children, Edward Walter and Anna Ruth Lynn Becker; sister-in-law, Lorraine Ruppel (Jerry); sister-in-law, Joyce Baumann, Pinehurst, NC; niece Paula Coffee (Steve); nephew, Robert Schmeck; nephews, Michael (Julie), Mark and Christopher (Mary) Baumann, David Walter (Lynn) and Dewey Walter (Danielle). His second love was flying, earning numerous ratings including Airline Transport Pilot. He owned and operated an aircraft rental business, including pilot instruction, weather and ground schools. David's professional career included Baker Perkins, Inc., Marketing Manager Chemical Machinery Division, Managing Director of their manufacturing facility in Stoke-on-Trent, England. He served as Vice President of Marketing, Brown Machine, in Beaverton, MI; Vice President of J.H. Day, Cincinnati, OH, and retired from Michigan Sugar Company as Plant manager of their Caro Facility. He was an avid sports fan, following the Nittany Lions, Detroit Lions and the Detroit Tigers. David's parents were Edward and Mary (Kime), lifetime residents of Kane, Pa. A brother, James Edward Baumann and sister, Mary Grace Walter, also predeceased him. David was a life member of the Midland Disabled American Veterans Post #94 and Midland American Legion Post #0165. He was a member of the AmVets Post #3652, the Owosso Elks Lodge #47 (60 years), and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Aerie #3655 in Beaverton. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 30, 2016, at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 335 Johnson Street, Freeland. Rev. Fr. Robert DeLand will officiate. Military Honors will be under the auspices of Midland County Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends at the W. L. Case & Company Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Road, from 2:00 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 29, 2016. Family and friends may then gather at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
