David Allen Mitchell

David Allen Mitchell of Saginaw, Michigan 

Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend passed away unexpectedly at his home, with his family by his side, on Wednesday, February 14, 2024. He was 78 years old. David Allen Mitchell was born on February 24, 1945, in Saginaw, Michigan, to the late Hubert D. and Carmen Rose (Thorsby) Mitchell. He was a 1963 graduate of Arthur Hill Technical School. Through mutual friends, Dave met the love of his life, Linda Ruth Esler. They dated, fell in love, and were united in marriage on December 16, 1972; she survives. Dave was a lifelong truck driver beginning his career with ACME Block and Supply, later working for Van Poppelen Brothers; retiring after many years of loyal and dedicated services. The role of his lifetime, one he treasured and cherished above all others, was to be a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. David was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles # 497 and Saginaw Moose Lodge #82. An avid sports fan, he loved cheering for and supporting his favorite teams, the Detroit Tigers, Detroit Lions, and University of Michigan. Dave also enjoyed the great outdoors, whether it was fishing with his buddies or camping with family and friends, he enjoyed the peace and camaraderie it brought to his life. He was also actively involved with various shuffleboard leagues throughout the community, making lifelong friends over the years. Dave's little piece of heaven was telling a joke or two and making his wife, family and friends laugh and smile. He will forever be remembered for his kind, giving, and selfless heart, for his ability to be fun and silly in any situation, and for truly living an amazing life filled with many beautiful memories and stories. 

Surviving are his loving wife of 51 years, Linda R. Mitchell of Saginaw; two sons and a daughter: David Jr. (Sue) Mitchell of Saginaw; Ryan Mitchell of MS; Darcey Aponte of Saginaw; seven grandchildren: Brittney (Jared), Brennan, Brianna, Andrew, Austin, Alexzandra (Jordan), Ashton; 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Janet (Art) McIntyre and Marie Esler; and his beloved Shih Tzu, Missy, whom he held very close to his heart. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. 

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Denise Smith; parents, Hubert and Carmen Mitchell; father-and mother-in-law, Oswald and Blanche Esler; a brother, Darrel Mitchell; a brother-in-law, Gary Esler; a sister-in-law, Bonnie (Donovan "Sonny") Morgan; and a very special aunt, Ethel Thorsby. 

Honoring his wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Dave's life will take place at a later date.
