Our loving mother Debbie Carter went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on the morning of April 17th. A lifelong nurse, Debbie dedicated her life to serving others. She never considered her profession as work, she always said that it was her calling by God. Whether it was caring for a sick a patient, a neighbor, a family member in need, a friend going through a hard time, or even a stranger who crossed her path, Debbie gave her time selflessly and wholeheartedly, with as much empathy, care and compassion as one could show, always putting others before herself. Her presence made people feel safe with comfort.
Debbie carried a bright, positive energy that could light up any room. Her quick wit and sharp sense of humor was what she was known best for. No matter how difficult the day was, she was always able to make you laugh and put a smile on your face in order to change your mood.
Her greatest pride, joy, and purpose in life were her two sons, Joel and Erik. She loved them deeply and never missed a chance to remind them just how proud she was of the men they had become. She gave them a childhood filled with love, laughter, and unforgettable memories. Her sacrifices and the legacy of her love, lives on in their hearts forever.
She now joins her cherished loved ones in Heaven—her father, Edward Zehnder; mother, Shirley Zehnder; sister; Kay DeAgostino; and beloved husband, Jacob Carter, for a long-awaited and beautiful family reunion in the presence of God, whom she spoke of often and trusted completely throughout her life.
Debbie found joy in the simple, soulful things. Including spoiling her beloved lap dog Sydni AKA “Pork Chop” (a 100-pound bundle of love) with all the car rides, walks, and treats a dog could ask for, working in her yard and garden, spending time with friends and family, going on nature walks and hikes, and soaking in the peace of the beach, the water, and the great outdoors. Time spent with her sons was her favorite gift, one she never took for granted. The smile she had when she was with those boys was something only God could give.
She leaves behind a legacy of love, grace, humor, strength, and faith that will never be forgotten. Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing her spirit is now free and watching over us, still shining as brightly as ever. She trusted in God in all of life’s circumstances, no matter the situation.
Rest peacefully Mom. You were and always will be loved more than words can explain. Your lifelong sacrifice and dedication to your boys will be forever cherished and never forgotten. We promise to live on your legacy in everything we do, and will continue to make you proud. It’s never goodbye, only see you later, all on Gods time. Thank you for being the best mom.
