Beloved husband, father, brother, and friend passed away peacefully, with his family by his side on Friday, June 28, 2019, at Covenant HealthCare - Cooper. He was 67 years old. Dennis James Baumia was born on January 21, 1952 in Wyandotte, Michigan, to the late David P. and Louise A. (Dodge) Baumia. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from February 10, 1972 to February 10, 1978, during the Vietnam War. While in the army, Dennis obtained his GED. Upon his return, he attended Monroe Community College. Dennis married Doris Schwartz; she preceded him in death. He later married Lorene K. Bailey on December 16, 1995, in Las Vegas, NV; she survives him. Dennis was employed by the Sisters Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in Monroe for 20 years. He later worked for 13 years as a security guard with Conley Security Agency. Dennis was a member of St. John Paul II Parish, St. Josephat Catholic Church in Carrollton. He enjoyed being outdoors, playing cards - especially Solitaire and Poker, and watching both war and western movies. Above all he loved and cherished his family. He will forever be remembered for his generosity and his strong work ethic.
Surviving are his wife of 23 years, Lorene K. Baumia of Zilwaukee; two sons: Josh Bailey of Austin, TX; Norm "Denise" Baumia of Zilwaukee; daughter, Brenna Baumia of Fort Riley, KS; nine siblings: Carol Bickel of PA; Thelma (Marvin) Bastien of Monroe; Bobby Baumia of CT; Phyllis (Dennis) Gates of FL; David Baumia of FL; Francis (Jan) Baumia of Monroe; Nancy Proffitt of Monroe; Patricia Parrish of Taylor; Paul Baumia of Rockwood; brother-in-law, Chris Bailey of Dallas, TX; sister-in-law, Lorraine (Robert) Vorce of Saginaw; special sister-in-law, Nancy (Chuck) Vorce of New Boston; a very special friend, Jolene Webb of Zilwaukee. Also surviving are many niece and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews, the Schwartz family, additional family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Doris Baumia; brother, Tommy Lee Baumia; sister, Linda Racey.
A funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 3, 2019, at the W. L. Case and Company Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Road. Rev. Fr. Steve Gavit will officiate. Military Honors will follow under the auspices of the United States Army and American Legion Post #439. Burial will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 5, 2019, at Great Lakes National Cemetery. Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the funeral chapel on Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
