Dennis Robert Adomaitis

Dennis Robert Adomaitis Saginaw, Michigan The world is a little less colorful for the passing of our beloved Dennis Adomaitis on February 11. Dennis was born in Grand Rapids, MI, on July 19 and/or 20 (we've all heard the story), 1945 to Robert and Sonnie Adomaitis. In 1969 he married the center of his universe, Melodye Schwartz. Together they danced through life not only as husband and wife, but as business partners, world-travel companions and adventurers. Dennis became an educator after attending Aquinas College, and a teaching position at St. Stephen High School brought the Adomaitises to Saginaw. Later, he joined the staff at Freeland High School, where he taught for 37 years with an unconventional style that inspired and touched the lives of many students. In addition to teaching, Dennis and Melodye opened Adomaitis Antiques, an entity that started out small and eventually grew to include a costume shop, appraisal and estate sale services, and even a travel business. Oh, such a zest for living! He was an artist at heart, and that spirit touched everything he did. His oil paintings are highly respected and he treasured recent opportunities to teach that craft again to adults. He loved music (he had a booming baritone voice that could fill a room!) and theater; he traveled intrepidly throughout the world, cooked amazing food and adored entertaining. Nobody was a stranger to Dennis Adomaitis; he had a big heart and an even bigger laugh that made everyone feel welcome and included. In addition to Melodye, Dennis leaves behind his sister and her husband, Kathy and Robert Coleman, in-laws Lindy and Mike D'Angelo, Robert and Jayne Schwartz, Richard Schwartz, and several nieces and nephews, including Mindy Chickering, with whom he shared a special bond. In this life, there's some family you're born to and some you find on your own, and Dennis generously shared his rich life with special friends Carolyn Rapson, Glen and Ruth Berkobien, Grey Gitzen, Bob Vitu, Bob Lewis, Jeff Sherven, Ann Russell-Lutenske and all their families. And so many others. He also leaves behind his beloved terriers, Nigella and Idena Menzel. There will be a visitation at Case Funeral Home, 4480 Mackinaw Road in Saginaw, on Monday, February 15th from 2:00 until 5:00 and from 6:00 until 8:00. On Tuesday, February 16th the family will be present at 10:00 a.m., and at 11:00, Brother Francis Boylan, CSC will lead a service at the funeral home. If you are able to attend on Tuesday, you are encouraged to wear your best hat as a loving nod to our gregarious friend. In lieu of flowers, you may wish to consider a donation to The Saginaw Art Museum, Angels Among Us, or The Children's Zoo. Otherwise, we suggest you just cook a big dinner, invite some friends over and use your good china.
