Diane Marie Hilbrandt (Schmidt) of Hemlock
Took her last earthly breath on Monday, May 9th, 2022. She was 72 years old. Born on June 7th, 1949, in Saginaw, Michigan, to the late Lyle & Arlene (Putnam) Schmidt, Diane was a 1967 graduate of Hemlock High School. Taking after her mother and grandmother, Diane showed an interest in cake decorating and it was by borrowing a horseshoe cake pan that she first met Warren Hilbrandt. The couple married a few months later, on December 11th, 1982, and celebrated over 39 years of marriage together. Warren survives her. It was this passion for cake decorating that occupied most of her life. Her and Warren blessed many a special occasion with their sensational designs, and there will likely never be another white cake like hers. Many of Diane’s family members were fortunate enough to have this passion passed on to them as well, and the legacy of Diane’s cakes will be carried on for years to come. Diane also enjoyed cooking, as well as collecting recipes, and it is easy to say she was at home in the kitchen. She also had quite the collection of cookie jars. Diane enjoyed planting flowers and growing fruits and veggies to can, though her green thumb didn’t extend to houseplants. Diane cherished her time raising children with Warren and had several family friends who would call her mom as well. She loved to throw holiday celebrations and was always the life of the party. She is remembered as being there for anyone in their time of need and always welcomed them to a place at her table. Most of all, her family and friends remember her as being one of the most generous people they ever knew.
Diane is survived by her children Warren Hilbrandt Jr., Donald (Katherine) Hilbrandt, Darlene (Michael)
Blackmer; siblings Roy Schmidt, Ronald Schmidt, & Janine (Michelle) Schmidt-Gummere; niece Angelia Schmidt; nephews Andy Schmidt, & John Lohrstorfer; as well as many cousins, other family members, friends, and her pets Dora, Lola, and Bessie.
Diane was preceded in death by her brother Dwight Schmidt; uncle Charles Putnam; and aunt Maxine Reisig.
In accordance with Diane’s wishes, cremation is to take place, followed by a private family committal service. Please share your thoughts, prayers, and memories with the family through www.casefuneralhome.com.
