Passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 1, 2020, at his home. Age 86 years. The son of the late Amelia (Domschott) and Stanley Schomaker was born October 9, 1934 in Saginaw, Michigan. He graduated from Hemlock High School. He married his High School sweetheart, Gertrude Stenzel, October 9, 1954. His wife of 66 years survives him. Don served in the Naval Reserves for 8 years and was employed by General Motors, Saginaw Steering Gear retiring with 38 years of service. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Hemlock and the Central Michigan Old Car Club. He enjoyed antique vehicles. He was especially proud of his 1928 Model A pickup. He enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, attending his grandchildren’s many sporting events, and a good game of Euchre with his friends. He had many travel adventures including several European trips and memorable road trips in the family station wagon with occasional disciplinary stops.
Surviving besides his wife, Gertrude, are four children, Randy Schomaker, Lynette Rossow, Scott Schomaker, Kathy (Matthew) Stavely; five grandchildren, Tara Schomaker, Jacob (Teresa Hulett) Rossow, Spencer (Jessica) Rossow, Benjamin Stavely, Paige (Dylan Maddox) Stavely; three great grandchildren, Levi and Cora Van Nortwick and Jackson Rossow; a sister-in-law, Glenda Schomaker; 2 nieces and 1 nephew. A granddaughter, Rachel Schomaker, a daughter-in-law, Debra Schomaker and his brother, Ralph Schomaker have predeceased him.
Private family services have taken place at Zion Lutheran Church, Hemlock.
