Donald E. "Don" McVannel
Hemlock, Michigan
Beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away on Sunday, July 4, 2021, at Mid-Michigan Medical Center - Midland, with his family at his side; at the age of 84 years.
The son of the late Warnie B. and Lulu E. (Near) McVannel, Don was born on January 8, 1937 in Saginaw, Michigan. He graduated from Merrill High School with the class of 1954. Don then continued his education at Michigan State University, where he received his Bachelor's Degree in Science and Chemical Engineering. He married Connie Fisher on May 23, 1964 at Fremont United Methodist Church, Bay City; she survives him. Don worked at Dow Corning for 44 years giving dedicated and loyal service. He was a member of Four Points Church, Swan Valley Campus. He was integral in the formation of the Robotics Club at Hemlock High School. Don was active in his children's and grandchildren's activities, as he was always there to cheer them on. He was very friendly, Don never met a stranger, and he always had encouraging words for all. Above all, Don cherished the time spent with his family.
Surviving besides his wife of 57 years, Connie; three children: Matthew McVannel, Steven McVannel, Cheryl McVannel; one daughter-in-law: Jill McVannel; four grandchildren: Kaylee McVannel, Taylor McVannel, Treavor McVannel, Connor McVannel; one brother: Gerald (Beverly) McVannel, one sister: Lillian Klawitter. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. Don was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister: Kenneth McVannel, Peter McVannel, Betty Dean.
A funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 9, 2021 at Four Points Church, Swan Valley Campus, 9265 Geddes Road, Saginaw, Michigan. Rev. Robert Richards will officiate with burial to follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Friends many visit the family from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 8, 2021 at the church, and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Friday at the church. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Four Points Church, Swan Valley Campus or Hemlock Robotics Gray Matter Team.
