Damer, Donald Henry Went to join his Lord & Savior on Tuesday November 5, 2013 at age of 87. Born in Saginaw, to Louise and Henry Damer. He served proudly in the United States Air Force during World War II as a member of the Greatest Generation. He graduated from Central Michigan with a Bachelor's Degree in Education and received a Master's Degree from University of Michigan. He taught at Arthur Hill, Saginaw High, and for many years in Weisbaden, Germany. He was a former supervisor of Lakefield Township and also sold real estate. He was a member of VFW Post 7302, the Hemlock Lions Club & Bible Baptist Church in Merrill and the American Historical Society of Germans from Russia. He also volunteered for the Salvation Army. He made a huge difference in the lives of relatives, friends and the community. He enjoyed gardening, walking with his German Schnauzer Blitz, genealogy, and Detroit Tigers baseball. Beloved uncle of Robert (Rose) Safford of Traverse City, Suzanne (Tim) Caggegi of Mason MI and Sharon (Doug) Thiede of Houston Tx. Also he is survived by numerous great nieces and nephews and his adopted families: the Mellons and Millers of Merrill. He was pre-deceased by parents and a sister Helen Strobel. Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 9, 2013 at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, 950 North Center Rd. Rev. Clayton Beck will officiate with military honors under the auspices of Hemlock-Merrill VFW Post #7302.
