Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to many was taken home to be with our Lord Jesus on Friday, October 25, 2024, surrounded by his family at the age of 89 years.
The son of the late Joseph and Elizabeth Agnes (Baranic) Nagy was born on September 16, 1935 in Saginaw. Donald graduated from Arthur Hill High School, the class of 1953. Don proudly served in the U.S. Army. He then attended Delta College to obtain his instrument technician certificate. Don worked for Dow Chemical, retiring in 1995 after 39 ½ years of service. He was a charter member of Gethsemane Evangelical Lutheran Church and was very active in his faith and church community. Don enjoyed traveling, reading, studying history of the State of Michigan and World War II, being a rock hound at Lake Superior and watching the freighters pass through the Great Lakes. He was also an avid and talented photographer, chronicling the history of Gethsemane Lutheran Church, photographing the Upper Peninsula and freighters of the Great Lakes along with the beautiful scenery of Michigan. There was nothing more that he cherished than his faith and family.
Don married the love of his life, Anita Eckert, on August 28, 1957; his wife of 67 years survives him. Their children also survive him: Daniel Nagy, Susan (Matt) Fobear, Jeanne (Michael) Olvera, Michael (Laura) Nagy, grandchildren: Nathan (Katherine) Fobear, Steven (Melica) Fobear, Celine Fobear, David Fobear, Samantha (Cody) Wyant, Ian (Carissa) Olvera, Marissa (Juan) Olivarez, Jack (Natalie) Archer, Eleanor Nagy, great-grandchildren: Jaxon and Liliana Olivarez, Hudson Fobear, Haislee Archer, his siblings: George (Cynthia) Nagy, Ed (Sally) Nagy, Mary (Ray) Speigl, Marjorie VanDette, his sister-in-law Lavonne (Eckert) Mendel, and many nieces, nephews, relatives and dear friends. Besides his parents, Don was predeceased by his son Paul Donald Nagy, his father-in-law and mother-in-law Rev. Otto J. and Gertrude Eckert, his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Joe VanDette, Rev. Otto W. Eckert, Adela (Professor Cyril) Spaude, Rev. Paul (Judy) Eckert.
