Donald "Shorty" William Engelhardt, Sr.

Donald William Engelhardt Sr. "Shorty" Saginaw, MI Passed away May 16th, 2014 Age 89 years. Donald was born on August 19th, 1924 in Birch Run, Michigan. The son of the late Wilhelm and Mary Engelhardt (Hill). Donald was an active member of Bridgeport Gun Club, Frankenmuth Conservation Club, Bridgeport Eagles, Bridgeport Spaulding Athletic Association, Saginaires Drum and Bugle Corps, and Teamsters. Donald worked for Gratiot Lumber for 29 years before retiring. Donald (Shorty) was also known as Mr. Bingo he enjoyed playing bingo and cards with family and friends. He married Betty Ann Lutz on September 6, 1952 she predeceased him on July 30, 2005. He leaves six children and their spouses to cherish his memory Leona (Dave) Kramer, Elmer Gus (Rhonda) Engelhardt, Donald Jr. (Tina) Engelhardt, Cheryl (Pedro) Moncada, Lynn (Robert) Strobel, Mary (Sid) Engelhardt. Two sisters Donna Kline, Lydia (Eugene) Dinse, 34 grandchildren, 48 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and in-laws. Besides his spouse, he was predeceased by his parents, and by seven brothers and five sisters. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 23, 2014 at W. L. Case and Company, 5700 Dixie Highway. Chaplain Douglas Bassett will officiate with burial at Oakwood Cemetery.
