Doris E. Shelley, age 97 of Saginaw, Michigan went to be with her Lord and Savior on February 19, 2017. Doris was born in Dickey, North Dakota on November 20, 1919, to Edwin and Elfreda (Dingle) Moore. She lived in Dickey until her father passed away. Then her mother and sister, Ada, and she returned to her parent's homeland of Cornwall, England. She there married her husband N. Charles Shelley on December 21, 1940. They had three children: Dixie, Robert and Celia. She and her family returned to the USA in 1954 and since has lived in North Dakota, Minnesota, Arkansas, and Michigan. Doris was a very creative and industrious lady. She gardened both flowers and vegetables, sewed, knitted, crocheted, did ceramics plus made pottery and baskets. She taught herself to play the piano, organ, violin and recorder. She is mostly remembered for her paintings: over 100. She gave gifts of her numerous talents to many people. She had fond memories of numerous dogs she owned over the years and her childhood horse that she rode bareback. Doris was predeceased by her parents; sister, Ada Dingle; and husband, Charles. She is survived by daughter, Dixie Shelley of Rohnert Park, CA; son, Robert and Betty Ann Shelley of San Diego, CA; and daughter, Celia and Ken Burkett of Freeland, MI; grandchildren, Dawn and Peter Weiss, Paul and Lynnae Shelley, Owen and Hazel Henry, Nicholas and Analisa Henry, plus 7 great grandchildren. She also has surviving relatives in England. Burial will be in Dickey, North Dakota. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider a memorial to Family Baptist Church, Saginaw, MI of which she was a member.
