Doris Jean (Hudson) James

Doris Jean James of Saginaw, Michigan

Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, aunt, great-aunt, and great-great aunt passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home on Friday, July 15, 2022. She was 101 years old. Doris Jean James was born on October 9, 1920, in Saginaw, Michigan, to the late Alfred and Mary (Mathews) Hudson.  She was a proud 1938 graduate of Ss. Peter & Paul High School. Doris met the love of her life, Clifford B. James Jr., through her longtime friend, Emily. They dated, fell in love, and were united in marriage on January 10, 1942; he preceded her in death on June 11, 2010. She was a longtime and faithful member of St. Dominic Parish, Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, where she offered time and talent as a Eucharistic Minister and was a member of the League of Catholic Women. As a young woman, Doris, enjoyed square dancing. Throughout her life she would gather weekly with her friends to play in their bridge club. Doris also served her community by volunteering as an election poll worker. She will forever be remembered for her excellent memory, her ability to connect with people through her laughter and smile, and for truly living a remarkable life.   

Surviving are a son, Brian James of Saginaw; granddaughter, Lindsey Wilson of Bridgeport; and three great-grandchildren: Lily, Israel, and Lana Wilson of Bridgeport; a great-great-grandson, D’asan. Also surviving are many beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford B. James Jr; parents, Alfred and Mary Hudson; six siblings: Alfred Hudson, Benjamin Hudson, Francis Hudson, Mary Hudson, Lester Hudson, and Theodotta Vail.

A Memorial Mass will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 23, 2022, at St. Dominic Parish, Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church Chapel, 4735 W. Michigan Ave. Rev. Fr. Steve Gavit will officiate. Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.
