Doris Marie Schafer (Beyersdorf) St. Charles, Michigan Formerly of Hemlock
Passed away Sept 10, 2016 at Union Court Assisted Living, age 90 years. Doris was born on March 30, 1926 in Hemlock, the daughter of the late William and Edna (Schoof) Beyersdorf. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church of Iva. She married Jacob Schafer on January 31, 1948. He predeceased her on October 28, 2001. She worked at Weichman's Department Store, Lufkin Rule, Mean's Stamping and retired from Dow Corning Medical Products. Following retirement Doris and Jacob had a winter home in Lakeland Florida, they loved the Tigers, and a summer home on Lake Missaukee in Lake City. She loved baking pies, cookies, Lebkuchen and best of all Kraut Bierocks a Volga-German stuffed pastry .
Surviving are two sons, one daughter and their spouses: William and Charlotte Schafer, Saginaw; Cynthia and Michael Gofton, St. Charles; Scott and Patricia Schafer, Waterford; five grandchildren; Alyson Schafer, Jacob Schafer, Emily Schafer, Staci Gofton, and Kerri Browning (Nick), four great grandchildren; Nathan Chapin, Gibson Davis, Rylan Browning and Lydia Browning, two sisters; Mildred (Ervin) Pretzer and Evelyn (Delbert) Pretzer, brother-in-law Ralph Rowe, and many special nieces and nephews; She also leaves brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; Rachel (Godfred) Schafer, Henry (Helen) Schaffer, Martha (Pete) Metiva, Ben and Mary Schafer and special friend from Lake City; Cathy Mills. She was predeceased by three brothers and six sisters; Elder, Chester and Addison Beyersdorf, Adeline (Leonard) Neuenfeldt, Ruella (Frank) Suhan, Connie (Jim) Ellis, Iola (Ed) Minto, Nina Rowe and Lorraine (Martin) Wardin. The family appreciates the loving care from all the staff at Union Court Assisted Living, A&D Home Health Care, Covenant Hospitals and the CMU AGES professionals.
Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m on Wednesday September 14, 2016 at Zion Lutheran Church, 17927 Dice Road, Hemlock. Rev. Paul Hauser will officiate with burial at Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Friends may visit with the family at W.L. Case and Company 201 N. Miller Road, Saginaw from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday September 13, 2016 and at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider Zion Lutheran Church of Iva or Right to Life Michigan.
