Dorothy Mae Lamping, surrounded by her loved ones, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Sunday, June 3, 2018, at the age of 88 years. A beloved spouse, mother, grandmother, sister, teacher, and much more, Dorothy was born March 6, 1930 to Ezra H. and Emmaline (Cosens) Miller. The first of eleven children, she was raised on farms in Tuscola and Isabella counties. Upon graduation from Clare High School, she attended Owosso Bible College before transferring to Central Michigan College of Education to earn the degree of Bachelor of Science in Education. After moving to Saginaw to begin a teaching career, she attended the Sheridan Avenue Church of the Nazarene where she met Willis A. Lamping, her husband of 55 years. Mrs. Lamping taught in the Carrollton Public Schools for 20 years. She enjoyed a long, active retirement with her husband that included travel, genealogical research, flower gardening, and service to others. Among her greatest pleasures was crafting beautiful quilts, now treasured as heirlooms by family and friends. She enjoyed the fellowship of her church family at the Saginaw Valley Church of the Nazarene. Over the years she served as Sunday School teacher, childrens church director, choir member, organist, and missions coordinator. Dorothy is survived by her children, Mark (Brenda) Lamping, Bourbonnais, IL, Deborah McLain, Saginaw, and M. Jane (David Weck) Holstein, Wheaton, IL; a daughter-in-law, Mona Lamping, Saginaw; grandchildren Heather Wardin, Michael McLain, Marc McLain, Matthew McLain, Bryan McLain, Meagan McCann, Jeffrey Lamping, and Lora Weck Vires; 10 great-grandchildren; many beloved nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by Willis, her husband; son, David; grandson, Nathan; son-in-law William McLain; two brothers, Vernon Eugene Miller and John Mark Miller; two brothers-in-law, Jerry Donaldson and Timothy List. Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 7th, at 11:00 AM, at the Saginaw Valley Church of the Nazarene, 1815 Tittabawassee Rd., the Rev. Randall E. Owens officiating. Committal and burial will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday at Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 - 8:00 PM, at W. L. Case and Co. Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Rd., Saginaw. The family will be available for visitation one hour before the service on Thursday.
