Douglas "Doug" W. Brockett of Burt, Michigan
Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend passed away peacefully at his home, with his family by his side, on Christmas morning, Sunday, December 25, 2022. He was 88 years old. Douglas W. Brockett was born on December 19, 1934, in St. Charles, Michigan, to the late Melvin and Gertrude L. (Boswell) Brockett. He married Barbara Lou Kretz on September 14, 1957; she survives him. Doug proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1953 until 1957 and as a reservist until 1961. He was employed by the Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad Company (CSX); retiring with over 25 years of loyal and dedicated service. The role of his lifetime was being a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Doug enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and had a wonderful sense of humor. He will forever be remembered for his kind and selfless spirit, his strong intellect, and for truly living an amazing life filled with laughter and memories.
Douglas leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Barbara; three children: David (Connie) Brockett, Dawn (Rock) Rose, and Kerri (Roman) Prexl; five grandchildren: Andrew, Matthew, and Michael Brockett, Randell and Cassandra Hall; six great-grandchildren; a sister and brother: Judy Percy and Larry (Joyce) Shappee. Also surviving are many loved nieces and nephews.
Doug was preceded in death by his father, Melvin Brockett; mother, Gertrude Boswell; and brothers: Marvin Brockett, Al Brockett, Morley Shappee, and William Shappee.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Covenant VNA Hospice for all their wonderful help during their time of need. A Funeral Service will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 28, 2022, at the W. L. Case & Company Funeral Chapel, 5700 Dixie Highway. Rev. Julie Bailey will officiate. Military Honors will follow under the auspices of the United States Navy. Private burial will take place at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens. Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the funeral chapel on Wednesday from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
