Duane Donald “Pork” Hoffman, Sr. of Bridgeport, Michigan
Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Monday, April 4, 2022, at Covenant HealthCare – Cooper. He was 85 years old. Duane Donald Hoffman was born on July 3, 1936, in Saginaw, Michigan, to the late Edward and Irene (Dubay) Hoffman. He attended Holy Rosary High School. Duane proudly served his country serving in the United States Army and United States Army Reserve from 1959 until his honorable discharge in 1965. He met the love of his life, Judith Jean Young, at the Janes Street Movie Theater, where Judy was working. They dated, fell in love, and were united in marriage on June 30, 1956, having fun throughout their 65 years of marriage; she survives him. Duane worked for and retired from General Motors after 37 years of loyal and dedicated service. He was a longtime and faithful member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #593, where he held various officer positions and was the past Grand Knight. Duane was an avid outdoorsman and found peace in nature hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed bowling, playing golf, and traveling with his wife and family. Duane held a special place in his heart for animals, especially his dog, Dusty. He leaves his indelible mark on this world through his gentle kindness, compassion, and the love he held dear for his family and friends.
Surviving are his wife, Judith J. Hoffman of Birch Run; a son and two daughters, Duane “Dewey” (Julie) Hoffman, Jr. of Birch Run; Dana (Curtis) Petersen of Stanton; Becky (Vicki Beyersdorf) Hoffman of Saginaw Township; six grandchildren: Timothy Reinhardt, Rachel (Klay) Gillham, Kyle Hoffman, Amanda (Jason) Hammis, Samantha Batshon, and Madison Hoffman; 10 great-grandchildren; brother, Richard (Mary) Hoffman of Frankenmuth. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Diane Geiling; son-in-law, Greg Mercer; brother, Tuck (Dolly) Hoffman, sister, Cookie (Dave) Wujowski; father- and mother-in-law: Sadie and Dick Young; two sisters-in-law, Nan (George) Prottenger and Peg Ramsden.
Honoring Duane’s wishes cremation has taken place. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, April 29, 2022, at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 3945 Williamson Rd. Saginaw. Rev. Fr. John Mancini, OSFS, will officiate. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Saginaw Rescue Mission or St. Francis de Sales Food Pantry.
