Henry, Duane James St. Charles, MI Duane J. Henry, 82, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 20, 2014 at Covenant Healthcare with his family by his side. Duane, a beloved father, grandfather, son and brother was born December 26, 1931, in Saginaw, MI. Duane enlisted in the United States Army at age 15, though the Army quickly realized he was underage and sent Duane home to get his parents' permission. Duane re-enlisted in the Army and proudly served during the Korean War. He dedicated his life to the water well industry, drilling wells in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan A man with a sharp wit and comedic ways, Duane was always good for a clever comeback or funny joke. He loved spending his time pheasant hunting with his sons and dog Ruffle, fishing at the cabin he built in Canada and watching NASCAR, Michigan State sports and the Detroit Tigers. Duane was a proud member of the Veterans of Underage Military Service and the American Legion. Survived by him are his aunt, Margery J. Wolgast; sisters, Marvella Witt and Ann Henry Atkinson (John); children, Michael J. Henry (Robin), James D. Henry (Jeanne), Karen L. Mathiasen, David J. Henry and Matthew M. Henry; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces. Predeceased by him are his parents, John E. Henry and Ruth E. Henry (Bell); brother, Edward Henry; sister, Betty Parker and best friend, John R. McLean. According to Duane's wishes, cremation has taken place. Pastor Kurt Weber of Messiah Lutheran Church will conduct a graveside memorial on Saturday, December 6, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Garfield Cemetery in Swan Creek Township with military honors conducted by American Legion Post #439. The family would like to thank the staff at Covenant Healthcare Coronary Care Unit for their care.
