Duane Robert VanWormer of Bridgeport, Michigan
Beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 18, 2020, at his home with his family by his side. He was 90 years old. Duane Robert VanWormer was born on January 22, 1930, in Saginaw, Michigan, to the late William and Petronella M. (Kwaiser) VanWormer. He was a proud graduate of Saginaw High School. Following graduation, Duane honorably served his country in the United States Army from June 1951 to May of 1953 during the Korean War. Upon his return, he met the love of his life, Eunice Joan Fuelling and they were married on September 26, 1953 in Saginaw; she preceded him in death on September 13, 1999. As a young man he worked as a deliver driver for Bridgeport Oil & Gas. He later began working as a journeyman welder at Fisher Body and eventually transferring and retiring from General Motors Buick City as a welder. Duane enjoyed playing cards, was an avid golfer, and above all he loved deer hunting. He will forever be remembered for his hard work ethic, his kind and generous heart, and for treasuring his time spent with family and friends.
Surviving are a daughter, Joan (Paul Rosa) Clark of Saginaw; five grandchildren: Kevin Clark of Saginaw; Scott (Melisa) Clark of Birch Run; Jason Clark of Bridgeport; Kelli (Adam) Fuller of Saginaw; Bryan Clark of Bridgeport; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers: Dale VanWormer of St. Louis; Terry (Minnie) VanWormer of NM. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
He was preceded in death by a son, Dave VanWormer.
A funeral service will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 23, 2020, at W. L. Case & Company, 5700 Dixie Highway. Pastor Ted McCulloch will officiate. Military Honors and burial will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens under the auspices of the United States Army and American Legion Post #22. Family and friends are welcome to visit at the funeral chapel on Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 2:00 p.m. Due to restrictions set forth by the State of Michigan and the worldwide health pandemic, all visitors are required to wear a face covering and practice social distancing.
