Earl E. Sams

December 13, 1925 — November 27, 2013

Earl E. Sams

Beloved husband, father, and grandfather went to his heavenly home on Wednesday morning, November 27, at age 87. He married Wilma I. Wereley on January 5, 1952; she survives him. Earl was born December 13, 1925, in Bridgeport, Ohio, the son of the late Edith (Wilkinson) and Wade Sams. He attended Saginaw High where he was an outstanding athlete. He proudly served in WWII in the United States Army as an infantry soldier and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. Earl loved his church family and was a charter member of Immanuel Bible Church (formerly Immanuel Baptist Church on Congress Ave.) where he served in many ways including nursery worker, Sunday school teacher, Deacon, and greeter. He was self-employed in sales and sales management his entire career. Earl enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, and U of M sports; but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family. He shared many wonderful hours golfing with his son, Jeff. Earl made friends everywhere he went (especially the golf course), because of his special sense of humor and engaging personality. He will be deeply missed by Wilma, his wife of almost 62 years, and Jeff and Kelly, his son and daughter-in-law; and his two grandsons, Ethan (Rebecca) and Eric. Also surviving are his two sisters, Sylvia of Saginaw, and Bette (Ralph) Unruh of Sawyer; and his two sisters-in-law Vivian (Howard) Cole of Ann Arbor and ViLeta (Brad) Ronan of Austin, Texas, also several special nieces and nephews. The family extends a special thank you to his doctor and friend, Dr. A. A. Amin, and the loving Hospice caregivers of Covenant VNA. Funeral service will take place at 1:00 p.m. Monday, December 2, 2013 at W. L. Case and Company Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Rd. Dr. Mark Hazen will officiate with burial at Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Friends may visit with the family on Sunday at the funeral chapel from 3:00-7:00 p.m. and on Monday from 11:00 am until the time of the funeral service.
