Passed away on Monday, October 9, 2017 at the age of 79 years. Edmund Nagel was born in Saginaw, Ml on March 28, 1938 to Edmund and Helen Nagel. He attended Arthur Hill High School and graduated in 1956. He then attended Bay City Junior College and obtained an associates degree of mechanical drawing. He met the love of his live, Sandra Thoms, and they were married on May 2, 1959. He began work as a draftsman at Grey Iron Foundry and was later promoted to designer at the Nodular Iron Casting Plant. He received the prestigious "Boss" Kettering award in 1981 for innovations in the manufacture of cast iron. In 1988 he was granted a U.S. patent for the development of cast metal processes. He moved with his wife to Danville, IL, to work at the GM Danville Foundry, but returned to Saginaw to the AM DC Research Technology Center as a Senior Process Engineer, where he retired in 1992. Edmund was a loving husband and father who raised two children, David and Cynthia. He was an avid grouse hunter and was a member of the Saginaw Gun Club and Freeland Gun Club. He was also a member of Peace Lutheran Church and enjoyed traveling to Florida with his family. Edmund is survived by his wife Sandra Nagel, children Cynthia and David Nagel, and grandchildren Madison and Colter Nagel. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 13, 2017 at Peace Lutheran Church, 3427 Adams Ave. Rev. Matthew Hauser will officiate with burial at Holy Cross Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Thursday from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the W. L. Case and Company Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Rd. and at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Saginaw Gun Club or the Ruffed Grouse Society-Saginaw Valley Chapter.
