Edward Francis Denome, age 88 of Saginaw, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Monday, April 2, 2018, at Wellspring Meadowview Memory Care. Edward was born December 5, 1929, in River Rouge, Michigan, to the late Francis and Anna (Utietus) Denome. A 1947 graduate of Holy Family High School, he was employed by General Motors as a millwright, retiring in 1989 after 30 years of service. He was a member of and bargaining chairman/shop committeeman for UAW Local 668 and as a union representative he was instrumental in improving working conditions and increasing benefits and wages for thousands of employees. On October 1, 1986, Ed was appointed by Governor James J. Blanchard to the Governors Communities of Economic Excellence Program Advisory Panel. He believed strongly that every person should receive a living wage, health benefits, a safe working environment, and dignity in the workplace. Prior to his GM employment, Ed was a crane operator and a member of the Operating Engineers. Ed was a longtime member and officer of the Washington Society, and it was there that he met Dorothy Watson with whom he shared 25 years of devoted love and companionship. Together they were volunteers at the American Red Cross Blood Bank. Dorothy passed away in May of 2017. Ed also enjoyed fishing, dancing, playing cards, sports, working outdoors, visiting with neighbors, and assisting at Saginaw Township election sites. Edward is survived by his three children, Jeffery (Dawn) Denome, Candis Beckwith, and Julie (Bruce) Duff; 9 grandchildren, Hollie (Scott) Harper, Anthony (Marie) Denome, Jennifer Bader, Eric Beckwith, Alex Beckwith, John (Kim) Solgat, Jason (Lindsay) Solgat, Gina (Joshua) Huhn, Jamie (Edward) Dankbar; Christie Theriault, Daphnie (Joseph) Melzo, and Marcie (Todd) Beckwith-Foster, 29 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Gerald (Marie) Denome and Robert Denome. He was predeceased by his brothers, Donald and Edward, a sister, AnnaRose, a son-in-law, Thomas Beckwith, a grandson, Danny Beckwith, and a sister-in-law Delores Denome. Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 12, 2018, at the W. L. Case Chapel, 201 N. Miller Rd. Rev. Rob Richards will officiate. Friends may visit with the family at the Chapel on Wednesday from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Those wishing to make an expression of sympathy may consider either VNA Hospice or the Alzheimers Association.
