Kalahar, Edward Martin Merrill, Michigan Our loving husband, father and grandfather joined the Angels in Heaven, Saturday November 24, 2012, following a brief illness, age 81 years. Ed was born in Owosso, Michigan September 9, 1931 the son of the late John and Catherine (Jacobs) Kalahar. He married Shirley Parker August 12, 1950 and she survives him. Ed was employed with Dow Chemical for 40 years, retiring in 1990. While at Dow he was a member of and served as chief steward of the United Steelworkers of America, Local #12075. He was a member of Knights of Columbus, Sacred Heart Council. He enjoyed watching old western movies, Notre Dame Football and riding his John Deere lawnmower. In addition to his wife, Shirley, Ed is survived by six children, Cheryl (Dennis) Doehring, Gail Felker, Kristie (Greg) Rohde, Michael (Bonnie) Kalahar, Daniel (Susan) Kalahar and Dennis (Kim) Kalahar; 18 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; a brother, Bernard (Doris) Kalahar and a sister, Terry Rottiers. He was predeceased by an infant son, John Kalahar and two brothers, Jack and Robert Kalahar. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Merrill, Michigan. Rev. Fr. Craig Carolan will officiate with burial in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family at W. L. Case & Company, Merrill Tuesday from 3:00 9:00 p.m. and Wednesday at church from 10:00 a.m. until time of the service.
