Gubbins, Edwin Burt, Michigan Beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle passed away early Tuesday, June 18, 2013, at his home. Age 89 years. He was born July 6, 1923, in Saginaw, the son of the late Eliza Mae (Williams) and Edwin D. Gubbins. He served with the US Navy during World War II from 1943 - 1946, serving in Staten Island, the Philippines, and Hawaii. He retired from Baker Perkins after 44 years of service. He enjoyed farming, his cabin, woodworking and gardening with his grandchildren. He was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, and later joined Faith Lutheran Church, Bridgeport. He was a member of the Birch Run VFW Post #7542. He was instrumental in starting the McGilvery Lake Property Owners Association, serving as President for several years. He was a charter member of the Albee Township Fire Department for sixteen years, and served as its Treasurer for several years. He married Doris Elma Katzenberger on April 24, 1948; she predeceased him February 28, 2003. Surviving are one son, three daughters and their spouses, Edwin R. and Dearaine Gubbins, Patti and Wayne Baughman, Sandra and William Stroup, and Diane Gubbins,; a daughter-in-law, Sharon Gubbins; a son-in-law, James R. McDougall; nine grandchildren, Brandon Gubbins, Scott Gubbins, James A. McDougall, Jamie and Christopher Collver, Monica and Rome Woolery, Todd and Samantha Gubbins, Roxanne Stroup, Joseph Stroup, and Justin Morris; 8 great-grandchildren, Zachary, Luke, Jayden, Janyia, Brayln, Wyatt, Katie and Benjamin; one brother and five sisters, Robert and Ruth Gubbins, Beulah and Howard Frye, Mary and Richard Kushion, Martha Lane, Laura and John Kayhill, Nell and Doug Beebe; two sisters-in-law, Joyce Mook and Arlene Polzin; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and their families. Besides his wife and parents, he was predeceased by a son, Randall Gubbins; a daughter-in-law, Kathy Gubbins; two brothers, Dareld Gubbins and Gene Gubbins; and a sister, Irene Kube. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 20, 2013, at Faith Lutheran Church, 4241 Williamson Road, Bridgeport. Rev. William W. Hessler will officiate with burial in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. His family will receive friends at the W. L. Case & Company Funeral Chapel, 409 Adams Street, from 2:00 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, and then at the church on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
