Eleanor Charlotte Hart
Loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away on July 30, 2018. Born on December 23, 1918, in Saginaw to the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Bechtel) Brettrager, Eleanor attended Saginaw Public Schools and the Saginaw Business College. She married Timothy Hart on November 14, 1942.
In 1950, Tim and Eleanor built Hart Hardware and operated it until Tims passing in 1963. Eleanor raised their 5 children and continued running the hardware until retiring from the business in 1987. She had a wealth of knowledge in plumbing, electrical, and any hardware related issues. Additionally, she was the James Township Treasurer for 44 years from 1952 to 1996.
Throughout her life, Eleanor lived her life to the fullest as she faced any challenge and accomplished success in all she did. As an artist, she shared her paintings with an annual Christmas card. She enjoyed traveling throughout Europe and the United States, with fond memories of her fall trips to Vermont. She spent many happy summers at Browns Landing in Tawas, treasuring the many friends she made there. She enjoyed helping others, planting her flower gardens and, most importantly, making sure everyone had enough food to eat. She loved her family and always found special joy in seeing the little ones.
She is survived by her children: Joanne (Roger) Boehler, Kathleen (Karl) Reis, Robert (Rhonda) Hart; daughter-in-law, Michele Freund, and son-in-law, Butch Jacobs; 12 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren; her brothers: Edward (Lucile) Brettrager and Donald (Pat) Brettrager; nieces, nephews and extended family members. Eleanor was preceded in death by her son, Timothy Hart, her daughter, Ann Jacobs, her brothers, sisters, and many in-laws.
Her funeral service will take place at 12:00 p.m., Monday, August 6, 2018, at W.L. Case & Company Funeral Chapel, 201 N. Miller Road. Fr. Jack Johnson will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Andrew Cemetery. Friends may visit the family at the funeral home from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.
