Elizabeth E. "Liz" Kitter of Hemlock, Michigan
Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Sunday, December 29, 2019, at HealthSource or Saginaw. She was 81 years old. Elizabeth Esther Shields was born on February 20, 1938, in Saginaw, Michigan, to the late Edward and Flossie (Ludlum) Shields. Liz was a proud 1956 graduate of St. Andrew High School. She met the love of her life, Garry Lee Kitter, through a niece and her sister Ruth. They were united in marriage on May 18, 1963; he survives her. Liz worked for Hemlock Public Schools in the cafeteria and as a bookkeeper with Second National Bank. However, her most fulfilling job was being a loving and devoted wife and mother. Liz was a very social person and had the innate ability to connect with all people. She enjoyed playing cards and bowling. Liz loved being outdoors gardening, tending to her flowers, and feeding the birds, especially her cardinals. She will forever be remembered for her fun and loving spirit and for being a ray of sunshine to all she ever loved.
Surviving are her husband of 56 years, Garry L. Kitter of Hemlock; two sons and two daughters: Walter Kitter of Hemlock; Wendy Jedynak of Freeland; Lori (Domenic) Bufalini of Douglassville, PA; Greg (Kym) Kitter of Grayslake, IL; four grandchildren: Mason Kitter, Tyler Kitter, Ashlyn Kitter, Kyle Jedynak; brother, Nicholas (Barb) Shields of Hemlock; sister, Ruth Ann Houghten of Walsenburg, CO; two sisters-in-law, Shirley Pinkel of Alpena; Gail (Jim) Vance of Saginaw. She was preceded in death by many brothers and sisters-in-law; and a special aunt, Mary Shields.
A Funeral Liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 3, 2020, at St. John XXIII Parish, St. Mary Catholic Church, 151 S. Marys Dr., Hemlock. Rev. Fr. Michael Steltenkamp, S.J. and Deacon Librado Gayton will officiate. Rite of Committal will follow at St. Andrew Cemetery. Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the W. L. Case and Company Funeral Chapel, 201 N. Miller Road on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A Vigil Service will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday evening. Liz will lie in state at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to St. John XXIII Parish or the Alzheimers Association.
