Elizabeth Emery Grills "Betty"

Elizabeth Emery Grills "Betty" Saginaw, Michigan Peacefully passed away at Cartwright Care Center on Wednesday, June 8, 2016, age 83 years. Elizabeth was born on May 29, 1933, daughter of the late John and Mary Elizabeth (Louden) Emery, in East Orange, New Jersey. She was a graduate of Kent Place School, Class of 1951 and earned a Bachelor's Degree in 1955 from Smith College. She married Robert J. Grills, the love of her life, on October 27, 1978. He predeceased her on July 20, 2011. Elizabeth was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church and retired from Yeo and Yeo after 22 years of service. She displayed her love of volunteering at Cartwright Care Center and was a member of many organizations including, the Visiting Nurses Association, where she was president for three years, the Covenant Healthcare Foundation, Saginaw General Foundation, Saginaw Symphony Orchestra, Voluntary Action and the Junior League of Saginaw. She enjoyed reading, gardening, trips to the casino and most of all spending time with her loving family. Surviving are her son, James Alexander Spence, III, and her daughter, Lynn Emery Spence (George Peter, II) Sullivan, her granddaughter, Emily Elizabeth Sullivan; her step children, Laura (Peter) Giannone, James (Linda) Grills and Robert Gills; her step grandchildren, Patrick, James and Margaret O'Connor; her "sister" Nancy Spence Kraus; also many other very special friends. She was predeceased by her first husband and the father of her children, James A. Spence, Jr., her infant daughter, Lee Robertson Spence and her brother, John Howard Emery, Jr. A memorial service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 18, 2016 at St. John's Episcopal Church, 123 N. Michigan Ave. Rev. Pamela Renna will officiate. Friends may visit with the family on Friday, June 17, 2016 at W. L. Case and Company, 4480 Mackinaw Road from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider Cartwright Care Center, Visiting Nurses Association, the R.C.
