Ellen Marie Blaine of Montrose, Michigan
Beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Saturday, February 12, 2022, at Covenant HealthCare - Cooper. She was 78 years old. Ellen Marie Bartig was born on November 12, 1943, in Saginaw, Michigan, to the late Leonard Ernest and Sarah Alveretta (Lickly) Bartig. She was a 1962 graduate of Hemlock High School. Following graduation Ellen attended the Saginaw General Nursing School where she received her credentials as a registered nurse. She married the father of her children, Willard Leroy Weeden. Ellen later married William Blaine in 2001; he preceded her in death on December 21, 2020. She worked as a nurse for over ten years in various capacities before taking on the role of her lifetime, a stay-at-home mother. A lifelong learner by nature, Ellen later attended Delta College and Central Michigan University where she received her bachelor's degree in journalism with a minor in nursing. She was raised in the United Methodist Church. Ellen was also a dedicated Girl Scout leader for 10 years. Ellen was a frequent exhibitor at the Saginaw County Fair with exhibits ranging from canning, art, and antiques. She was a creative person and enjoyed painting, photography, writing, and pottery.
Surviving are a daughter and son, Marsha (Thomas) Weeden Williams of Bay City; Brian (Sara) Weeden of Lansing; step-daughter-in-law, Betty Blaine of St. Charles; three grandchildren: Sierra Williams of Bay City; Chase Williams of Bay City; Elizabeth Weeden of Lansing; four step-grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren; sister, Ileen (Thomas) Metzger of Beaverton; a special niece and nephew, Christopher Metzger and Sarah Metzger. Also surviving are many additional nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Donna Bartig Eagle; brother, Ernest Bartig; stepson, Harold Blaine.
Honoring Ellen's wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 16, 2022, at the W. L. Case & Company Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Road. Rev. Ted McCulloch will officiate. Friends are welcome to visit with the family on Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Private burial will take place at a later date at LaPorte Cemetery. Due to the Covid 19 pandemic, the family please asks that all visitors wear a mask or facial covering.
