Passed away Tuesday, November 7, 2023, at her home. Age 92 years.
The daughter of the late Luella (Aelker) and Fredrick Petersen was born August 20, 1931, in Owosso, Michigan. She married Thomas J. Mikek, November 20, 1964. He passed away in 2018.
Elsie served with the U.S. Air Force from 1960-1966. She was a Registered Nurse, retiring from the Visiting Nurses Association. She was a longtime member of St. John XXIII Parish, St. Mary of Hemlock Catholic Church, serving on the Christian Service Board. She helped organize food drives at Thanksgiving and Christmas for local families from the church. She delivered Meals on Wheels after her retirement and loved helping other people. Elsie enjoyed gardening and grew beautiful roses. Most of all, she enjoyed watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren’s activities, sports, band concerts and anything they were involved with.
Surviving are two daughters and their spouses, and a son, Karen (Todd)Hutter, Freeland, MI; Joe (Sara) Mikek, Hemlock, MI; Amy (Paul) Struble; her grandchildren, Joe Mikek, Jr, Kayla (Dave) Kipfmiller; Logann (DJ) Liebrock; Kelley Liebrock; Jake (Carissa) Hutter; Drew Hutter; eight great grandchildren; her grand dog, Murphy; three sisters, Elleanor Phillips, Bernetta Roe, Frances Reid; two sisters-in-law, Carol Petersen and Valda Mikek; several nieces and nephews; a special friend, Kristi Kirby; Besides her husband and parents, Elsie, was predeceased by a brother, Fred Petersen and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
The funeral liturgy will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 13, 2023, at St. John XXIII, St. Mary of Hemlock Church, 151 St. Mary Drive, Hemlock, Michigan 48626. Rev. Michael Steltenkamp S.J. will officiate with entombment in St. Andrew Mausoleum. Friends may visit with family at the W. L. Case and Company Funeral Directors, 201 N Miller Rd, Saginaw, MI 48609, from 3:00-8:00 p.m. Sunday, where a vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Friends may then visit at the church from 10:00 a.m. Monday until the time of the funeral liturgy. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider St. John XXIII Parish, St. Mary of Hemlock Church or the V.N.A. Hospice.
