Erma M. Rohde Hemlock, Michigan Passed away Monday, January 25, 2016 following a long and happy life. Age 86 years. Erma was born, October 31, 1929, the fourth child of the late Joseph and Alma (Tighe) Corbat. She grew up in Merrill, Michigan where she attended Potter Elementary School and Sacred Heart High School. She married Elwood Rohde, July 1, 1950. They settled in Hemlock, Michigan where their family grew to nine children. Elwood passed away May 21, 2000. Erma was a loving wife, mother and friend. She and her husband worked hard to give their children a happy life. Erma retired from Dow Corning Company in 1986 with more than 10 years of service. She was a devote Catholic and actively participated in St. John XXIII, St. Mary's parish. She enjoyed serving her community by donating her time to Meals on Wheels and cooking senior citizen dinners. In their retirement, Erma and Elwood enjoyed travel and often spent winters in Texas or Florida although they never left Michigan before hosting a Christmas Eve party for their children and grandchildren. They took great joy in spending time with family and friends. Erma remained very close with her sisters throughout her life and had many close friends, including her best friend, Shirley Neunfeldt. Erma spent many summers at her family cabin where she played cards with her family and friends and roasted marshmallows with her grandchildren. She was an avid reader and often bought books at rummage sales, along with any other small treasures she might happen to find. Surviving are eight children and their spouses, Joseph (Sharon); Deanna (Donald); Alan, Laurie (Charles); Joan; Doug(Kathleen); Phillip (Michelle); and Michelle (Tom); 22 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; her sisters, Elaine and Bernice (Lyle); her brother Richard (Yvonne); her brother-in-law, William (Lois) Rohde; her sister-in-law, Louise Rohde; her nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, her parents, and a daughter, Loraine, a brother, Joseph and a sister, Monica. Erma was dearly loved by her family and will be greatly missed. The funeral liturgy will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 30, 2016, at St. John XXIII, St. Mary in Hemlock, 151 St. Mary Dr. Hemlock MI. Rev. Dennis J. Kucharczyk will officiate with burial in St. Mary Cemetery. Friends may call at the W. L. Case and Co. Funeral Chapel, 201 N. Miller Rd. from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Friday where a vigil service will be held at 6:00 p.m. with Jerry Green officiating. Friends may then call at the Church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral Liturgy. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider Heartland Hospice. The Rohde family would like to thank Christine Palasty from Heartland Hospice for her gentle and patient nature. Her help was a great comfort to Erma during the difficult illness at the end of her life.
