Erna Miluns Gulbis

Erna passed away peacefully at Bickford Memory Care Assisted Living on Wednesday, September 23, 2020 at the age of 98 years. Erna was the daughter of the late Otto & Ottilija (Treillis) Sneps. She was born on September 12, 1922 in Aluksne, Latvia. Erna married the late Raimonds Miluns in 1943 in Latvia. Shortly after their marriage, World War II erupted & Russian tanks rumbled into Latvia. Raimonds was arrested & sent to Siberia. By this time, Erna was pregnant & fearing for her safety, she fled to Germany with her two older sisters. They survived the bombing of Dresden & ended up in a Displaced Persons Camp in Munich, Germany for 6 years until finally immigrated to America in 1950.
Erna is survived by her daughter Maruta Miluns of Bradenton, Florida.
Preceding her in death are her sisters Tamara Sneps & Zenta Priede & her second husband, Peteris Gulbis who died in 1999.
Erna was a member of the Latvian Lutheran Church in Saginaw.
A graveside service will take place at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 3 at Forest Lawn Cemetery (1315 S. Washington Road, Saginaw). Rev. Biruta Wilson will officiate. Friends may visit with the family on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at W.L. Case and Company (4480 Mackinaw Road, Saginaw). A procession to the cemetery will follow visitation. Those planning an expression of may wish to consider memorials to the Latvian Evangelical Lutheran Church (128 N. Elm St. Saginaw, Michigan 48602). Pursuant to the current state executive order, indoor building capacity is limited, face covers are required and social distancing is encouraged.
