Ernestina “Tina” Cardenas of Saginaw, Michigan

Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister passed away on Thursday, November 19, 2020, at Covenant HealthCare – Cooper. She was 73 years old. Tina Cardenas was born on November 15, 1947, in Cotulla, Texas, to the late Alvino and Cristina (Gomez) Cardenas. She graduated from Charlotte High School in Charlotte, Texas, before attending and graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Programming from Delta College. Tina worked for and retired after many years of dedicated service from EDS as a computer programmer. She was a faithful member of The Cathedral of Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church and actively volunteered in various ministries throughout her life. She enjoyed shopping, collecting angels, cooking, decorating for all the holidays and was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. Above all, Tina loved spending time with her family, grandchildren, as well as growing spiritually in her Catholic faith. She will forever be remembered as being a pillar of strength for those she loved, her energy, charisma, and selflessness, and for having the innate ability to communicate and connect with anyone.

Surviving are six children: Lisa Benavides of East Lansing; Rosemary (Daniel) Acevedo of Saginaw; James (Dori) Garcia of GA; Cristina Garcia of Saginaw; Armando (Yazmin) Garcia, Andres DeLaCruz III and his fiancée Karla Rocha of Bay City; 27 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; four brothers and one sister: Gloria (Santos) Martinez, Enrique “Henry” (Antonia) Cardenas, Jesse (Delia) Cardenas, , Gilbert (Ofelia) Cardenas, and George (Irene) Cardenas; sister-in-law, Rafaela Cardenas; and brother-in-law, Steven Alaniz. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Angelita Garcia; two brothers and two sisters: Junior Cardenas, Consuelo Alaniz, Alicia (Rojelio) Alaniz, and Tony Cardenas.

A private funeral service will take place on Wednesday, November 25, 2020, at the Cathedral of Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, 615 Hoyt Ave. Procession and burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery for those who were unable to attend the Church service and would like to accompany the family. Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the W. L. Case & Company Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Road on Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. In accordance with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services ordinance, indoor building capacity is limited to 25 persons at a time, face coverings are required, and social distancing encouraged. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
