Gene passed away on Saturday, June 6, 2020 at the age of 68 years. He was born on August 24, 1951 in Munci, Indiana to the late Eugene C. and Doris M. (Headley) Gillem. Gene graduated from Arthur Hill High School, class of 1969. He married Kristine Holtz on August 15, 1980 in Saginaw. The couple spent 40 wonderful years together.
Gene was employed as a Court Officer in Saginaw and Bay County. He also owned R&G Associates, a process serving company that he opened 20 years ago. Gene loved his profession; it was often the thing in life that kept him motivated. Along with his job, he had a true passion for animals, he dedicated a lot of his time to helping strays and shelter pets. To name a few he leaves behind, Annie, Ivy Bug and Salem. Gene has since been reunited with his favorite cat Parker who often kept him accountable for his health; she passed away nearly a year ago. Not only did Gene enjoy helping animals, he enjoyed helping people in need. He was a man of many talents, he could walk into any place and have a vision for a DIY project that would make the place a work of art. Above all, he enjoyed time spent with his family and close friends, especially having breakfast with his family.
Geno was also a member of the Saginaw Warthogs Chapter #77, he was the Vice President. He was an avid motorcycle rider and loved to take his wife Kristine for rides. When Kristine wasn’t available to go, he took his daughters Amanda and Kaitlyn.
Gene is survived by his wife Kristine and their three children; Aaron Gillem, Amanda (Jerry Kraatz) Gillem and Kaitlyn (Ian MacMurray) Gillem. He is also survived by his grandson Thomas; his sisters Lorraine Dahlstrom of Cottage Grove, Minnesota, and Sharon Caron of Kalamazoo, Michigan and his brother in law Mark (Christine) Holtz of Trumbull, Connecticut. Geno also leaves behind many Warthog brothers to cherish his memory, especially Mike Jones “Benji”, “Boneyard”, “Tex”, “Throwdown” and “Suave”.
A memorial visitation will take place on Saturday, June 13, 2020 from 11:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. at W.L. Case and Company, 4480 Mackinaw Road. Due to the worldwide health pandemic, Covid19 rules and regulations will be in place. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider the Saginaw Humane Society, Saginaw Animal Control or a charity of personal preference.
