Eugene Thomas Tanke

Beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather went home to be with our Lord on Monday, October 30, 2023. At the age of 90 years. 

Eugene Thomas Tanke was born on October 11, 1933, in Benton Harbor, MI to George A. Tanke and Mildred C. (Momany) Tanke. His parents, his siblings and his wife, Eleanor Jean (Enders) Tanke predeceased him. Eugene and Eleanor, high school sweethearts, married and were parents to three sons: Eugene T. Tanke II and his wife Cynthia, Christopher Walden Tanke and his wife Terri, and Robin Warren Tanke. Eugene is the grandfather of five grandchildren: Eugene T. Tanke III, Anna Kleinebreil and her husband Timothy, Jennifer St. Clair and her husband Lester, Brandon Tanke and his wife Allison, and Stephanie Greene and her husband Christopher. He is also a great-grandfather of seven great grandchildren: Aloysia, Edison, Jolie, Theodore, Elliot, Sawyer, and Jackson.

Eugene earned a degree in architecture from the University of Michigan and a master's degree in city planning. He spent most of his career working at Albert Kahn Associates, rising to associate level before retiring. He and Eleanor made a home for their three children in Huntington Woods, Michigan. Upon retirement they moved to a home on the water at Saginaw Bay near Pinconning.

Honoring Eugene's wishes, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 15, 2023, at Hopevale Church, 4873 N. Center Road, Saginaw, MI 48603. A luncheon will immediately follow the service. Friends may visit the family from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Friday at the church. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted with W.L.
