Our beloved husband, father, and papa went home to the Lord on Sunday, January 13, 2013, at the age of 79. Eugene was born July 21, 1933, in Saginaw to the late William and Bernadette (Blust) Smith MacDonald. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He married Janice Breternitz on January 13, 1973, she survives him. He enjoyed horses, sailing with his brothers, camping, and cribbage. He retired from Hemlock Public Schools maintenance department, but in his heart he was a cowboy. He was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church and the Scotch Society for many years. Besides his wife Jan he is survived by his daughters, Tracie (Travis) Lindsay, Tammy (Kurt) Watson, Trisha MacDonald; grandchildren, Alexus, Lillian, Catherine, and Kaeden; siblings, Larry (Charlene) MacDonald, Douglas (Theresa) MacDonald, Joe MacDonald, Rita (Tony) Reyes, Fran (John) Heintz; sister-in-law, Mona MacDonald; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother Robert MacDonald; and special aunt Catherine Smith and "brother" Don Smith. Funeral services will take place at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 17, 2013, at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 2461 N. Raucholz in Hemlock. Rev. Richard Mundt will officiate with cremation to follow. Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at W.L. Case & Company 201 N. Miller Road and on Thursday at church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
