Florence (Rappuhn) Alever

Our loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and aunt passed over into eternal life on July 19, 2023, age 101 years.

Florence was born October 6, 1921, to the late Thomas and Jennie (Wressell) Guttridge. She graduated from Arthur Hill High School then went to work at Lufkin Rule. In 1947 she went to work at Michigan Bell Telephone Company, retiring in 1981.

Florence married John Rappuhn in February of 1942. They were married for almost 50 years, raising their three daughters. Sadly, John passed away in June of 1991. Florence later married Dan Alever in October of 1992. He passed away in January of 2015.

Florence was a lifelong member of Ames United Methodist Church. She was a member of The Red Hat Society, Square Dancers Club, Cloggers Club, and the Altrusa Club. She was also a member of The Telephone Pioneers of America and served as a loan officer at Communications Family Credit Union for years. Florence enjoyed bowling and golfing and most of all spending time with her friends and family at their cottage at Whitestone Point.

Florence will be forever missed by her children: Susan (Thomas) Myers, Barbara (Thomas) Fairbanks and Beverly Poitras and her partner Dennis McClure; her grandchildren: Thomas Myers, Kathy (Bill) Henderson, Jennifer Myers, Tammie Martin, David (Dinora) Warner, John (Amy) Warner, Matthew and Andrew Fairbanks, Kimberlee (Saul) Chiago, Samantha (Nick) Messenger; 16 great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Along with her parents and husbands, Florence was predeceased by her five wonderful sisters and their spouses: Mae (Ted) Shreve, Josephine (Moke) Groom, Betty (John) Wendling, Shirley (Bernard) Fisher, and an infant sister Merle. Also a special niece Jean (Lee) Brandimore and two brothers: Bill (Lila) Guttridge and Thomas (Stella) Guttridge.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 19, 2023, at W. L. Case & Company, 4480 Mackinaw Road, Saginaw. Rev. Amy Terhune will officiate. Friends may visit the family from 10:00 am until the time of service. A private burial will be held at a later time.
