Frances C. Varney (Birdsall)
Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, and aunt passed away peacefully Saturday, January 4, 2025, just a day short of her 99th birthday. Frances was born on January 5, 1926, in Saginaw, Michigan to the late Edward and Alvia (Sonner) Birdsall. She married the late Laverne Varney on April 5, 1947, and spent 67 years with the love of her life and eternal dance partner before his passing.
Frances served the community by volunteering regularly for several decades at the Bethesda Thrift Shop and was notorious for finding treasures to purchase and bring home for family members. She was a long-time member of the Washington Society where she and Laverne would spend time in their favorite activity together, dancing and socializing with their good friends. Fran was a devoted Christian, loving, kind, generous, and quick to laughter. Known for that trademark sparkle in her eyes and an attitude to match, as she would even say, she's a spitfire.
Fran leaves behind her children, Sandra Reis and Gary Varney; grandchildren, Melanie (Jon) Keith, Sara (Matt) Mendoza, Jamie Varney; great-grandchildren, Amberleigh Morris, Lux Mendoza, Luna Mendoza, Caitlan Wascher, Austin Varney, Jonathan Varney; step-grandchildren, Krystal (Joe) Slaybaugh, Kiersten (Michael) Samson and Cassidy Tilot, and several great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her sisters, Elsie Rogers and Margaret Lovelace, brother Jack Birdsall, grandson Jeffrey Bauer, granddaughter Amanda Reis, son-in-law Paul Reis, and daughter-in-law Cathy Varney.
Funeral service will take place at 12:00 pm, on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at W. L. Case and Company Funeral Directors, 201 N. Miller Road, Saginaw. Gary Varney will officiate.
