Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend went home to be with his Lord, after a long lingering illness on Friday, March 17, 2023, at his home, with his family at his side; at the age of 70 years.
The son of the late Fred Sr. and Maria (Hernandez) Quiroga, Fred was born on December 30, 1952 in San Antonio, Texas. He graduated from St. Joseph Catholic High School with the class of 1971. Fred married his beloved wife, Sally J. Carmona, on December 21, 1973, in Saginaw, Michigan; she survives him. He retired from Dow Corning after 30 years of loyal and dedicated service. Fred was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. In his younger years, Fred enjoyed baseball for many years. Fred, his brothers, and brother-in-law worked on and built several racecars and would drag race. He also restored many classic cars with his son-in-law. Fred attended many classic car shows, races, and various other car events. He was an avid bowler, bowling in three or four leagues at a time. He had several perfect games of 300. Fred will fondly be remembered as the rock of the family. Both Fred and Sally would go traveling, whether to San Antonio to visit his grandmother, up North, and various places. Above all, Fred cherished the time with his family and loved ones, especially taking the time teaching and swimming with his beloved grandchildren.
Surviving besides his wife: Sally J. Quiroga; two daughters and one son: Sylvia Quiroga, Fred Quiroga III, Christina (Richard) DeLaCruz; beloved daughter-in-law: Heather Quiroga; ten grandchildren: Paulie Gomez IV, Benny Elizalde (fiancé: Sylvia Alford), Peter Elizalde, Jesse Elizalde, Juan-Sergio Casas, Anissa Quiroga, Ricky DeLaCruz, Jennifer DeLaCruz, Jacob DeLaCruz; great-grandchildren: Paxson Gomez, Ember Elizalde, Camilla Elizalde, and one great-granddaughter on the way: Sloane Gomez; sisters and brothers: Aurora (Robert) Guzman, Jesse (Pam) Quiroga, Florencio (Joann) Quiroga, Robert (Robin) Quiroga, Sonia (Ernesto) Garcia, Gloria Derige; loving brother-in-law: Enrique Sanchez. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends. Besides his parents, Fred is preceded in death by his grandson: Anthony J. Quiroga; grandparents: Ignacia and Juan Rojas; sisters: Orlinda Sanchez, Sylvia Rodarte; and his mother-in-law: Jennie Hazel Fisher Ortiz.
Funeral Liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 22, 2023, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 910 N. 6th Avenue, Saginaw, Michigan 48601. Rev. Fr. Frank W. Voris, OFM Cap will officiate with Rite of Committal to follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Friends may visit the family from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 21, 2023, at W. L. Case and Company Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Road, Saginaw, Michigan 48603; and 10:00 a.m. until the time of mass at the church on Wednesday.
