Miller, Frederick LeRoy Saginaw, Michigan Fred went home to heaven Tuesday, January 14, 2014, at the age of 95 years. Fred was born in Indianapolis, Indiana August 17, 1918, the son of the late Fred Vern and Cecil (Roney) Miller. He married Verna May Sanford October 11, 1940. She predeceased him August 10, 1971. He married Era Helen Wilcox June 3, 1972 and she predeceased him May 1, 2010. He was a member of First Church of the Nazarene. He taught Sunday school and served as a Bible study leader for many years, as well as choir director and soloist. Fred had a beautiful tenor voice and loved to sing in church. He served on the Bridgeport Community School Board. Fred served in the United States Army Transportation Corps during World War II, going over with the supplies and making sure they got to their destination. He also served as the military guard officer on the Jeremiah O'Brien, a Liberty Ship, which is now a museum ship in San Francisco Harbor. One of his hobbies was building model ships and he later built a model of the Jeremiah O'Brien. Fred worked at Michigan Bell Telephone for 46 years, starting as a lineman and reaching the rank of Engineer. Fred is survived by two children, Sandee (Gary) Hanka and Richard Miller; two step-children, Dr. David (Beverly) Wilcox and Kathleen (Paul) Haiderer; eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter, Christine Ann Miller in 2004 and three brothers, Donald, Emmett and Vern Miller. According to Fred's wishes, cremation has taken place. A family graveside service will take place in the spring. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider a donation to the Saginaw City Rescue Mission or Community Village.
