Gaida Paeglis

Paeglis, Gaida Saginaw, MI Passed away peacefully in her home on June 6, 2015, one day shy of her 79th birthday. Gaida Blukis was born in Riga, Latvia June 7, 1936, coming to Saginaw in 1950. She married Alfreds Paeglis on September 3, 1960. Gaida is a 1954 graduate of Arthur Hill High School. In the 1950's and 1960's, Gaida worked for the A&P grocery store, starting in the produce department and later as a bookkeeper. As long as her health allowed, Gaida was an active member of the Saginaw Latvian Lutheran Church and the Latvian Club of Saginaw. In the club's early years, Gaida enjoyed folk dancing and was a member of its championship volleyball team. Later in life, Gaida enjoyed singing in the club chorus. She was also a long-time member of a knitting club with many of her closest friends. For many years, Gaida also served as the local retailer of Latvian books, records and jewelry. Family was most important in Gaida's life. She stayed home to raise her children and take care of her aging parents. She enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and also for countless fundraisers for her church and the Latvian Club. In the last 16 years, the greatest joy in her life was spending time with her grandchildren and watching them grow into wonderful teenagers. Gaida's loving husband, Alfreds, predeceased her in 1996. Surviving are her daughter, Linda, Saginaw, MI and son Paul, with wife Joann and grandchildren, Nicholas and Logan, Hilliard, OH. She also has 5 nieces and nephews. Her parents predeceased her, as did four sisters-in-law, a nephew, her Goddaughter and many others dear to her. The funeral service will take place 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at the W.L. Case & Company Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Rd. Rev. Robert Franklin will officiate with burial in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family at the chapel from 6:00 8:00 Tuesday, June 9, 2015 and on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of the service.
