Skabardis, Gaitis "Guy" Saginaw, Ml Loving husband, father and grandfather passed away suddenly on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at the age of 77 years. The son of the late Vilhelms and Anna (Pulkis) Skabardis was born on August 20, 1936 in Liepaja, Latvia. In 1950 he emigrated with his family to Michigan. He served in the U.S. Army and Michigan National Guard. He met and married the love of his life, Judith E. Streussnig, on July 14, 1963. Shortly after they were married he joined the Saginaw Police Department where he served honorably for 27 years and retired in 1990. Throughout his life he was actively involved in outdoor activities especially hunting and sailing. He was an active member of the Latvian fraternity Valdemarija, the Latvian Club, Latvian Evangelical Lutheran Church, Fraternal Order of Police, Bay City Yacht Club and the American Legion Post #22. Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Judy and their children: Maija Skabardis, Guy (Ann) Skabardis, Erik (Lisa) Skabardis. His two grandchildren, Niklas and Rachel Skabardis will forever treasure the memory of their "Opaps." In addition, siblings: Rita (Ronald) Stegehuis, Janis Skabardis, Strauja (Eugene) Briggs, Dace (Edward) Hodgeson, brother in law Ted (Marge) Streussnig, sister in law Linda (David) Lagalo, sister in laws MaryAnn Kuntze, Gretchen Streussnig and Nancy Streussnig, and many nieces, nephews and friends. Family and friends may honor his life at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 17, 2014, at W.L.Case and Company Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Rd. Rev. Franklin will officiate with cremation to follow.
