Genevieve Frances McKeage Stanton, Michigan, formerly of Hemlock, Michigan
On February 4, 2020, Genevieve F. McKeage, age 93, surrounded by her loving family, passed into the waiting arms of her Creator.
Jennie was born in St. Charles, Michigan January 23, 1927, the youngest child of the late Lawrence and Pearl (Burke) Moeller. She graduated from St. Charles High School in 1944 and after her mothers passing, lived for a year in California with her sister Ann Terry and family.
Jennie returned to Michigan and married Donald W. McKeage in 1947. She was his helpmate and co-activist in his efforts to support veterans. She became a lifetime active member of the VFW Post 7302 Ladies Auxillary, holding leadership positions at the local and district levels. Don & Jennie were also active in the 82nd Airborne Association and 505 RCT Association, traveling to many conventions and reunions and to several anniversaries of the D Day Invasion of Normandy.
Jennie and Don raised 3 daughters: Alice McKeage, Mable (John) Locke, and Barbara Fortenbaugh. Don predeceased her in 2010. She has 3 grandchildren: Todd (Kim) Niersel , Tyson (Shanon) Niersel, and Teresa (Troy deceased) LaDouce; and great-grandchildren: Jasmin Niersel, Spencer (Zach) Lauer, and Jordan, Mitchel, and Mason LaDouce. She has many family friends who call her "Gram" and will be missed by all, including Rusty, her beloved dog, who had a special place on her lap.
In younger days, Jennie enjoyed many outdoor activities, including gardening, fishing and golf. She bowled for many years and also took up sewing, knitting, and cross-stitch. She was a baker who loved to experiment with new recipes. During each holiday season, she made cookies, candies, and her fabulous fruitcake! She tried her hand at making wine and other beverages. In fact, she taught her grandchildren to pick dandelions for her much sought after dandelion wine! She was also an avid poker player and the Moeller poker games were legendary! But her real passion, which she shared with daughter Mable, was painting ceramics, a pastime she enjoyed for 50 years. In 2014 & 2015, Jennie along with daughters Mable and Barbara entered ceramics in the Saginaw County Fair and Jennie won several ribbons! In the last 3 years, she and Barbara raised monarch and swallowtail caterpillars to release as butterflies, and last year became a monarch way station.
She was predeceased by her brothers Martin, John, Edward, and Thomas Moeller, and sisters Margaret Guziak, Clara Guziak, Kay Olson, Stella Bodhaine, Ann Terry and Dorothy Alderson. She is survived by many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
