Genevieve Marie "Gennie" Slodowski of Merrill, Michigan

Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 11, 2020, at Caretel Inn of Tri-Cities; she was 79 years old. Genevieve Marie Lechmann was born on September 26, 1940, in Saginaw, Michigan to the late George and Leona (Koepke) Lechmann. She was a 1957 graduate of St. Marys Cathedral. Genevieve married Donald A. Slodowski on October 25, 1958; he preceded her in death on November 28, 2011. She was a member of St. John XXIII Parish, St. Mary Catholic Church, proudly raising her children within the tradition. Throughout her life, Gennie and Don enjoyed taking their children fishing and camping, especially to Indian Lake, in Manistique of the Upper Peninsula. She had an excellent eye for detail and created many loving and beautiful works of art through ceramics, crocheting, knitting, and sewing. Gennie also enjoyed shopping and was proud to work on the family farm.

Surviving are a son and two daughters: Thomas (Karen) Slodowski of Hemlock; Diana (Scott) Raymond of Indianapolis, IN; Audrey (Matt Schoof) Jarabek of Saginaw; a son-in-law, Timothy Roggow; seven grandchildren: Laura (Adam) Miller, Michael (Tracey) Slodowski; Jeremy Raymond; Krystina (James) Curnutt, Timothy (Megan) Roggow II, Amy (Nathan) Gale, Ashley (Andy) Brauer; nine great-grandchildren: Keirstyn and Brody Curnutt, Aubrey, Katie and Alden Roggow, Brandon and Connor Gale, Mason and Carson Brauer; four step-grandchildren: James, Kassandra, Alexander and David Hensler; three sisters: Janet (Dale) Foye, Marie (Gronda), and Jean Lupien; sister-in-law, Joyce Lechman. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Arlene Roggow; brother, John Lechmann; sister, Pat Thiel; two brothers-in-law, Bob Granda and Eddie Lupien.

Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the W. L. Case Funeral Chapel, 201 N. Miller Road, on Friday, February 14, 2020, from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A funeral liturgy will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 15, 2020, at St. John XXIII Parish, St. Mary Catholic Church, 151 St. Marys Drive, Hemlock. Rev. Fr. Michael Steltenkamp, SJ, will officiate, with Deacon Librado Gayton assisting. Visitation will resume on Saturday at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. Rite of Committal will follow at Oakwood Mausoleum. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to The Care Team Hospice.
