Federspiel, George, Jr. Saginaw, Michigan Our beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother passed away at home Tuesday, May 7, 2013, age 86 years, after a short battle with cancer. The son of the late George W. and Pearl M. (Bastedo) Federspiel was born August 5, 1926 in Lakefield Township (Merrill), Michigan. He served in the United States Army during World War II from 1945-1946. He married Lorraine Surdock, his loving wife of five years, on December 29, 2007 and she survives him. George was employed at the Chesapeake Railroad Co., retiring after 37 years. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post No. 1859, Carrollton; Moose Lodge No. 82; Eagles Aerie No. 4413 and the Pulaski and Wolga Clubs. He enjoyed deer hunting up north and at their place in Bay Port, MI. He also enjoyed fishing, playing cards (Euchre) with his wife and many friends. He loved spending time with his family and grandchildren, Matthew, Melissa, Sierra, Bryce, Brandon, Tony, Jr. and Lane. In addition to his loving wife and grandchildren, George is survived by his brother, Merlin (Jean) Federspiel; a sister-in-law, Betty Federspiel; nephews, Keith W. (Dori) Federspiel, Pinconning and Terry Federspiel of Glennie; his nieces, Kellie Federspiel and Holly Sullivan an uncle, Jim Bastedo; great-nephews and nieces, Daniel, Dawn, Adam, Cory, Brandon, Brett and Mira; many aunts, uncles and cousins. George also leaves a step-daughter, Mary Ann (Bill); three step-sons, Tony, Claude and Kurt; two daughters-in-law, Debbie and Mandy (Jim) Goodwill, whom George thought of as a daughter. He was predeceased by a brother, Keith C. Federspiel; a nephew, Tim Federspiel; a great-nephew, baby Andrew Federspiel and a step-son, Tim Surdock. The funeral service will take place 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 11, 2103 at W. L. Case & Company, 4480 Mackinaw Rd. Rev. Phillip DeVries will officiate with military services under the auspices of VFW Post NO. 1859, Carrollton. Friends may visit with the family at the chapel Friday from 2:00 8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until time of the service. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider a donation to the family wishes.
