Hammis, George Saginaw, Michigan
Passed away unexpectedly, with his family by his side on Saturday, August 22, 2015, age 73 years. He was born in Saginaw on January 24, 1942, son of the late Phillip A. and Elaine (Gavit) Hammis. George married Nancy Dixon on May 18, 1963, she survives him. He graduated from Holy Family School and worked for Brettrager Manufacturing and since worked as a consultant in the machine building industry. He enjoyed golfing and achieved a Hole In One. He was a car buff with an eye for classic and muscle cars. George enjoyed spending time at his cottage and was in the process of rebuilding it.
Surviving besides his wife Nancy, are his loving children, Todd Hammis, Amy (Larry) Meissner, Stephanie (Mike) Kitson, Jeff Hammis and Jodi Hammis; eight grandchildren, Daniel, Molly, Paige, Kaylee, Brennan, Kyle, Grace and Tyler; three brothers, Keith (Pat) Hammis, Phillip (Margaret) Hammis, Jim (Carolyn) Hammis; three sisters, Diane Garno, Elaine (Tom) Rau, JoAnne Rivette; his sister-in-law, Meg Hammis; also many other special relatives and friends. Besides his parents, George was predeceased by his brother, David Hammis, his mother-in-law, Alice Mason and his brother-in-law, Don Garno.
Funeral Liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 27, 2015 at St. Dominic Parish, St. Peter and Paul Church, 4735 W. Michigan Avenue. Rev. Steven M. Gavit will officiate with burial in St. Andrew Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday from 2:00 to 9:00 p.m. at W. L. Case and Company, 4480 Mackinaw Road and on Thursday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
