George Oren Packard of Saginaw, Michigan
Beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend passed away unexpectedly at his home on Monday, May 31, 2021. He was 78 years old. George Oren Packard was born on September 16, 1942, in Saginaw, Michigan, to the late George W. and Helen M. (Foote) Packard. He was a proud graduate of Arthur Hill Tech. Following graduation, he was inducted into the United States Army on May 18, 1966. He married the love of his life, Annis Louise Morford, on August 2, 1966, and together moved to Germany until his honorable discharge on April 25, 1968. He then transferred into the United States Army Reserve. Annis preceded George in death on May 5, 2021. He was employed as a warehouse worker with Super Foods for 20 years. George later began working for Lowe’s Home Improvement store as a tool pro retiring after 20 years of service. He was an avid NASCAR fan, cheering for his favorite “Lowe’s” driver, Jimmy Johnson. George also enjoyed watching “Walker Texas Ranger”, “MASH”, war movies, but what he truly loved was watching classic western films. He will forever be remembered for loving, kind, and caring soul, calling his sister during Jeopardy, and for the very special way he said “I love you” to his children and grandchildren, “be careful”.
Surviving are four children: Linda (Steve) Marlowe of Grand Blanc; George S. (Jennifer Heading) Packard Sr. of Birch Run; Kyle (Laura Schroeder) Packard of Burt; Amy (James Mayes) Packard of Saginaw; 11 grandchildren and their spouses; 19 great-grandchildren; one brother and sister: Patricia Sova of Saginaw; Roger (Beverly) Packard of Interlochen; sister-in-law, Wanda Packard of Saginaw. Also surviving are many loving nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Packard; brother-in-law, John “Jack” Sova; niece, Mary (Sova) Carpenter.
A funeral service will take place at 12:00 p.m. (Noon) on Monday, June 7, 2021, at the W. L. Case & Company Funeral Chapel, 5700 Dixie Highway. Rev Ted McCulloch will officiate. Military Honors and Burial will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens under the auspices of the United States Army and American Legion Post #22. Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the funeral chapel on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and on Monday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.
